Permesso di soggiorno per motivi di lavoro subordinato (work subordinate residence permit)

The permesso di soggiorno per motivi di lavoro subordinato is issued to foreign citizens who are employed under an employer (as opposed to foreign citizens who are self-employed).

Duration of the permesso per motivi di lavoro subordinato 

The length of the permesso di soggiorno per motivi di lavoro subordinato depends on the type of employment contract:

• Lavoro subordinato a tempo determinato (fixed-term employment): 1 year
• Lavoro subordinato a tempo indeterminato (permanent employment): 2/3 years
• Lavoro subordinato stagionale (seasonal work): 9 months

The length of the permesso di soggiorno per motivi di lavoro subordinato changes according to the employment contract. Usually, a permesso di soggiorno is issued for the same duration as the presented employment contract.

How can I RENEW my permesso di lavoro per motivi di lavoro subordinato?

The renewal of the permesso di soggiorno per motivi di lavoro subordinato can be requested at the Questura by filling out the appropriate forms (postal kit) 60 days before the expiration of the residence permit.

Remember to include in the envelope (after filling out forms 1 and 2) documents such as:

• Photocopy of your expiring residence permit;
• Photocopy of your passport;
• Photocopy of your identity card;
• Photocopy of the modello Unilav;
• Photocopy of your last CUD or Income Statement;
• Photocopy of the last payslip.

ATTENTION
Only include photocopies in the postal kit. Never send the original documents!
You will bring the original documents with you on the day of the appointment at the Questura.

How much do I have to pay?

If you use the postal kit, you will have to pay:

• €30.00: raccomandata (registered letter)
• €16.00: marca da bollo ( revenue stamp)
• A bollettino (bulletin) which costs:
  • €70.46: permesso di soggiorno for a duration of 3 months – 1 year
  • €80.46: permesso di soggiorno for a duration of 1 year – 2 years

Attention, if you have lost your document or need to update it (not renew it), you will only have to pay €30.46.
